Today I had a very nice photo shoot in Hanover with Karen Kamensek, a very talented and beautiful conductor with american roots. The Chicago-born Karen is designated to be the first female grand music director of the Lower Saxony State Orchestra in 374 years of history since they were established!

Today they officially nominated and presented her to the local press in the presence of some important people – and some local photographers like me…
The first picture was very simple and, uhm, ordinary. The background wasn’t nice and it was more a group shot to let the important people be part of the story ;-) Just enough for a local press print but definitely not for an agency portrait or a nice portrait for a full page print…

Minister Lutz Stratmann (l.), Karen Kamensek and director of the opera of Hanover, Michael Kluegl
So I asked the press spokeswoman of the opera for a short portrait session in another location and she made it possible. Shortly afterwards we met up in a bright hallway of the opera with structured walls, a seating area and some other cool elements. Photographers playground! ;-)
While a photographer from the local press took some quick photos of Karen with his on-camera flash, I set up my Manfrotto C-Stand with a Lastolite EzyBox 60x60cm (24×24″) and a Nikon SB-800. The results with this small setup were awesome! But see for yourself…
All pictures below were taken with only one SB-800 in the EzyBox, triggered by the SB-800 on my D3. Lenses: 85mm, 50mm, 35mm, 70-200mm
