Hi Richard,

first you have to think about how the Quadra should act: As the mainlight with a few ambient light or as a fill light with ambient light as the main light source.

The Quadra (or whatever u use as flash light) should set to a power that lights the subject right, whatever variation u want to use. When u set the light and the fixed aperture in manual mode just make the shutter time longer to control how much ambient light will flood your image.

Remember: The aperture controls the amount of flashlight, the shutter controls the amount of ambient light!

That will do the trick! :-)

Hi Stefan

When you use your Ranger Quadra's you always say that first you take a shot in Aperture Priority mode at the aperture you want to use then put those settings into manual. My questions is what do you then set the Quadra's at, the same or different? to achieve that darker background

Hey! I just saw your Youtube video (was searching for info on the Lastolite softboxes) and I really enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing all the details of the shoot and the results, it was nice to see the softbox in action. I'm still trying to decide what light mods to purchase, so far I only have umbrellas. Very nice to see what it can do in action. Thank you!!

Hi Stefan, Nice photos on your site. I see that you are also working with the Ranger Quadra. I bought the ringlash EC kit and an extra head last week. Normally I use my strobist flashes a Canon 580 EX and 3 Lumopro 120 manual flashes. Sometimes I was missing extra power on location shoots.

Yes indeed. I only bought it for the video functions but it's very useful to extend the 70-200! Image quality is stunning though! But I think I will now go and buy the D800 so my D7000 is unnecessary. There's enough space to work in DX-Mode with the D800 and have a good image quality with 36 MPix and a much better ISO performance. Okay, one can expect that at 3K Euro ;-)

Very good review, I have been think of getting a DX-camera just to get more tele out of my 70-200, and this got me thinking that a D7000 would be a good choice. I'm not especially interested in filming (or rather all the extra gigabytes), but it looks really good as a ordinary camera as well.
